The Meteorology Vault
A thorough collection of interesting 19th-20th Century Meteorological instruments. Pieces pertaining to the measurement and recording of temperature, atmospheric pressure, dew point/humidity level, wind speed, and water flow. Items such as thermometers, anemometers, barometers, barographs, weather vanes, water meters, and curious instruments of Meteorological significance.

Early Fahrenheit Alcohol-Type Thermometer
In 1724, Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit developed the scale we use today. To aide in correlating temperature to 'new' fixed points, Fahrenheit used descriptive or visible references. Including, the temperature of ice: 0° (freezing), the heat of your body: 98°(blood heat), and moderations in local temperature from spring/fall: 55° (temperate) to a hot summer day: 76°(summer heat). Red-dyed spirit medium. Encased in Mahogany, original glass, hand-inscribed paper scale.

Antique Ivory Travelers Thermometer
Diminutive Ivory Thermometer, with Original Leather Case. Mercury thermometer in leather & wooden tombstone-style case, brass hinge hook & eye clasp, small ring for wear on pocket chain/necklace. English made, circa 1790.
1820 Daniell Hygrometer
Invented in 1820 by John Frederic Daniell to accurately measure the dew point of an environment. An incredibly fine early and scarce piece.
Later Model Featured in The Smithsonian (National Museum of American History).
1828 J. Speyer Dutch Thermometer
Marked '1828 J. Speyer ". Walnut or mahogany frame, with pitched roof molding atop, paper dial with float glass cover. Red-dyed alcohol thermometer. CHS LL vs. Remer (Left), Fahrenheit (Right) -16F to 112F. Amsterdam temperature histories with dates. Written in Dutch (Amsterdam).

Réaumur & Celsius Mercury Thermometer
Antique atmospheric mercury thermometer features both Réaumur and Celsius scales. Thermometer displayed in fine, ornately carved Oak frame with etched brass face, and German-silvered cage protecting the glass bulb. This thermometer ranges from (-)20-50(C) & 0-40(Re).

German Barograph by G.K.E. Schroder
Hand-crafted in Hamburg. Encased in wood & glass box with metal handle and push-latch closure. Mechanics are comprised of fine brass and copper. Fully functional & professionally restored.
Used to detect atmospheric pressure records and changes over time.

Very early model. Engraving of 'Woods Late Abraham & Co.' signature vs. more widely circulated, later pieces signed 'Abraham & Co' or 'Woods Abraham'.

Leslie's Differential Thermometer
Italian made, unsigned. Excellent condition, complete original. Originally invented by John Leslie in the early 1800's; Differential Thermometers are used to measure variations in temperature.

Louis XVI-Style French Spiral Bulb Thermometer
Detailed cast-brass bow & frame. Blue-spirit working fluid, squirrel-tailed bulb thermometer, & kickstand base. Fahrenheit scale. Crafted of fine Walnut. Beveled porcelain scale, displaying 10-100 degree range.

Tyco's 1300A Lloyd's Hygrodeik (Early Model)
This hygrometer uses a wet bulb thermometer (left) and dry bulb thermometer (right), with an adjustable pointer to read relative humidity and dew point temperatures via engraved nickel-silver plate.

Harris-Style Gold-Leaf Electroscope
Fine single leaf electroscope used to demonstrate electrostatic charge. Mahogany housing with lacquered brass components, Bakelite insulator, and gold-leaf indicator. A pristine, custom build. Unsigned, English made.

Tyco's Hygro-Autometer
Water from the glass container is wicked up which allows the Wet-Bulb thermometer to be read. The left Dry-Bulb shows temperature unrelated to systems' humidity.

An interesting Fahrenheit and Centigrade thermometer in mahogany tombstone-style base, alcohol thermometer, with semi-circular brass ring protecting bulb. Marked 'Short & Mason, London' 'Tycos' 'Made in Great Britain'.

Kueffel & Esser NY Anemometer
Engraved at the Bottom of the Brass Base. Features in-and-out airflow with reset switch, c.1900-1940. Pieces such as this were imperative to workers' safety and daily operations. With data from an anemometer, Miners' were able to calculate maximum shift duration at various depths within the mine.

Water Current Meters were used by civil and hydro engineers to measure river (moving water) velocities and determine flow for use in river catchment management, water supply calculations, and flood management. Used during WW2, American.

WWII 24-hour recorder housed in a metal box with glass viewing porthole, a hinged-door with button push-lock on side, allowing for changing of charts/re-inking the needle. Sold in original leather-bound, push-lock case & additional attachments.

This is a modern version of Robert Hooke's 1667 Pendulum Anemometer; a fascinating device that allows for precise pressure and windspeed measurements without need of electricity.

Functioning German Military Barometer, used for soaring & gliders. Last calibrated 17 May, 1980 by MITSA Lab. Serial No. 51736. Scarce gold colored model.
