This is an antique 18th century alcohol-type thermometer. The first alcohol-type thermometer was created by a glassblower named Daniel Fahrenheit in 1709. The alcohol-type thermometer predates the mercury thermometer. Encased in mahogany and featuring original glass, this thermometer is marked at 0°F (freezing), 55°F (temperate), 76°F (summer), and 98°F (blood heat).
