Col. E.V. Whitby Boxed Microscope by J.Swift & Son

Edwardian Bacteriological Microscope by J.Swift & Son, London. Lister Limb Microscope Boxed Set, Circa 1894-1902. This microscope was designed for staff of the Medical Department of the War Office.

Box marked 'E.V. Whitby'. This microscope belonged to Col. E.V. Whitby, M.B. of the Royal Army Medical Corp; The first Head of Radiology at Queen Alexandra Military Hospital. He met with Edward VIII, then Prince of Wales, during 1929 opening ceremonies for the hospitals new wing (which introduced Radiology).was awarded the 1937 Leishman Memorial Prize for the for outstanding merit in the Royal Medical Corps.
