Antique late 19th Century Station Pointer by Cary Co. London sold with a Brass Maritime Rolling Ruler boxed set. Both included in their original wood cases.

Station Pointer features a silvered brass 360 degree graduated scale. Used primarily for maritime navigation and surveying to calculate precise location. Station pointer does not include additional extension rods.

Maritime Rolling Rulers were used primarily to draw parallel lines on navigational charts. Ruler shows the English Ministry of Defense's signature arrow mark, with 160100 patent number.

Further information on Station Pointer's as described in the Royal Museums Greenwich: 'A station pointer is used for plotting a ship’s position from horizontal sextant angles taken between two or more objects or geographical features. To use it, the angles measured by the sextant are used to set the positions of the movable arms around the circle on the station pointer. This can then be placed on a chart to draw position lines from the features observed and so plot the ship’s position.'
