Rare 1860's Ornate Brass Morris Patent Lamp by Hinks & Son

Fine, museum-quality mid-19th century English table lamp. This ornate solid brass oil lamp by Hinks & Son features a weighted, felt-lined base supporting a curved 4-arm table-stand. Flanked on both sides with detailed ribbon brass work that wrap around an inner support arm leading to round reservoir holder. 

This lamp has a removable reservoir with a single-burner and articulating eyelet. Complete with its original key, hand-blown glass chimney, and outer milk-glass shade. All original glass is intact with no cracks. An extremely fine, custom-commissioned piece. Circa 1862-1865. 

Founded by James Hinks (1816-1901) in Birmingham, England. His son Joseph (1840-1931) finished his apprenticeship in 1862, and the company began trading under ‘Hinks & Son’. 

This lamp features a single burner. James & Joseph Hink's invented the Duplex double-burner in 1865. The use of a single burner on this very fine piece indicates this lamp pre-dates the invention of the double-burner. An incredibly early piece demonstrating their exceptional craftsmanship.
