Functional Forester's Surveyor's Compass by The A. Lietz. Co. American-made, before or during WW1. This interesting sighting compass, composed of Aluminum, features two collapsing adilades, an inclinometer, a cardinal-pointed compass card, bubble-level, and a blued-steel needle atop a jeweled agate pivot (needle inscribed arrow indicates North).

 Graduated 360 degrees, numbered every 10. Needle locking mechanism uses a thumbscrew on bottom of case. A ball joint on base allows for the attachment to tripod. Knurled outer bezel, adjustable to indicate local magnetic variation; Can be adjusted by unscrewing 'declination' screw on side of compass & rotating bezel to local variation. Circa 1900-1920.

Complete with original Leather travelling case.
