W.M. Harvey & Co. Ltd. Sestrel Binnacle Ships Compass
W.M. Harvey & Co. Ltd. Sestrel Binnacle Ships Compass
Nautical Compass Made by Scottish manufacturer, W.M Harvie & Co. LTD. at 24 McAlpine St., Glasgow, Scotland (Later named William Harvie & Co. LTD, and primarily known as makers of maritime lighting such as lanterns and ships signals). Circa 1873-1902.
While W.M. Harvie's maritime lighting has historically been more accessible to find in circulation, their limited manufacturing of nautical compasses, such as this, results in extreme scarcity.
This ships binnacle and sestral compass feature a single oil burner which allows illumination for the user to continue navigation throughout the night. Brass binnacle holds the floating compass, which can be read through the glass window so as to not incur sea or weather damage on the compass housed within.
