Large and complete fossilized wooly mammoth molar. Dating to the Pleistocene period (2.6M-12,000 years ago).
This fine specimen came from a European collector through Amsterdam. Fossilized molar weighs an incredible 9 lbs. 10 oz., measuring 11 inches tall and 7 inches wide. It‘s noteworthy Shellac finish is indicative of a 19th century collection. This particular fossil is remarkable for it's relatively compete roots, and large overall size. Fossilized shells can be seen inside one of the lower root crevices.
Sold with and encased in a fine Victorian cloche on a specialized ornate stand. Victorian era cloche features unique oval shaped glass, with an Ebonized wood base on four ball legs. Displayed on a custom, engineer-built metal stand; comprised of a cast iron ornate base, bronze mounting point, and three specially fitted brass limbs.
Diligent measurements and calculations of this fossil were used by to determine it’s exact center of gravity. This stand design consciously ensures optimal weight distribution. Guaranteeing it’s structural integrity and longevity.
