1730 August Framed Botanical Print by Robert Furber- Scarce Original 'Twelve Months of Flowers'
First Edition Original 'August' Framed Print from Twelve Months of Flowers, created by renowned British floriculturist, Robert Furber (1674-1756). Published in 1730, Twelve Months of Flowers featured monthly arrays of dazzling floral & fauna arrangements directly sourced from Furber's notable personal nursery, located in Kensington.
Each floral arrangement was "grouped according to the month in which they flower". These grand displays are highlighted in ornate urns, in typical Baroque style.
Each flower can be identified by a number, which is matched respectively with the seed bank located at the bottom of the page. Conceived & sold as a bound flower catalogue, the lovely artistic nature of the prints led to them becoming coveted works of decorative art in themselves, adorning the walls of aristocracy
Incepted & designed by Robert Furber, the end result was the product of a collaborative effort with two other 18th century leading names of their field- Engraved by master English engraver, Henry Fletcher, with plate design & end-work hand-colouring by acclaimed Flemish artist, Pieter Castels.
Authentic first edition, in the very scarcely found month of August. Professionally framed in an antique guilt & wooden frame, with rich sea foam green matting. Fantastic condition appropriate with age.
"The plates were advertised first in 1731 in Fog’s Weekly Journal and the collection is one of the largest and earliest sets of coloured engravings in the history of English printmaking"
