Antique Sapphire & Diamond Trilogy Ring, 1.35 Carats 18K Gold

Sourced from London, England, this antique ring dates to the Edwardian era (circa 1890–1910). Crafted in 18K gold (unstamped, tested), it features round, bezel-set old European cut (OEC) diamonds and a natural, untreated sapphire. The gold has a subtle rosy hue due to its copper alloy content.

OEC diamonds were popular from the late 19th to early 20th century and predate the modern round brilliant cut. These stones were hand-cut using candlelight or natural light. Euro cut diamonds are known for their high crowns, small tables, and open culets. Their popularity declined in the early 20th century as round brilliant cuts became the standard, and many larger OEC stones were later recut. As a result, original OEC jewelry that remains intact in its original setting is increasingly rare.

This piece is a wonderful surviving example from the turn of the century, preserving the character and craftsmanship of the period. The deep blue sapphire at the center is complemented by the surrounding diamonds in a classic three-stone (trilogy) arrangement, a style favored during the late Victorian to early Edwardian era.
