The Victorian Gothic-Revival style of this piece is noteworthy in that American globemakers of the day utilized popular artistic motifs. This Gothic-motif stand featuring trefoils and quatrefoils utilized iron, which was a popular material for American Globemakers. Typical of Victorian Revivalism, many late 19th century American globes appear very similar to earlier English versions (with primarily Mahogany or ebonized wood bases).
