French Pocket Transit & Inclinometer

Antique Traveler's Surveyors Sighting Transit & Inclinometer in Hunter-style case. Unsigned. French made, circa 1900.

Nickel-plated Brass Compass with Nickel Compass Card showing 8 cardinal points. A steeled needle on jeweled Ruby pivot, with gilded inclinometer. Features two collapsing adilades on North & South. Graduated 360 degrees, numbered every 20 degrees. Arrow inscribed left of North indicates compass' magnetic variation (8 degree east).

Marked 'Made in France'. Excellent condition. Handsome & functional precision instrument.

Functional with Original Leather case, this Brunton Pocket Transit, said to be "the most convenient, compact and accurate pocket instrument made for preliminary surveying on the surface or underground."

Outer Case has stamped metal label from York College (Ser. A 4794. This example is marked "D. W. BRUNTON'S TRADEMARK REG U.S. PAT. OFFICE, WM. AINSWORTH & SONS DENVER, COLO. U. S. A. 112067." It was owned by the York College. Mid-Century, American Made.

Functional Forester's Surveyor's Compass by The A. Lietz. Co. Alluminum sighting compass features two collapsing adilades, an inclinometer, compass card with 4 cardinal points, bubble level, blued-steel needle with inscribed North arrow on jeweled agate pivot, with inclinometer. Graduated 360 degrees, numbered every 10. Needle locking mechanism uses a thumbscrew on bottom of case. Ball joint on base allows for the attachment to tripod. Complete with original Leather travelling case. Knurled outer bezel, adjustable to indicate local magnetic variation; Can be adjusted by unscrewing 'declination' screw on side of compass & rotating bezel to local variation. American made, circa 1920.
