Vintage Keuffel & Esser & Company, New York Mechanical Pocket Anemometer with original Leather Case. Used in various Meteorological fields to measure airflow; This particular anemometer spins "backwards" (reverse spin), indicative of a Miners' Anemometer.
Pieces such as this were imperative to workers' safety and daily operations. With data from an anemometer, Miners' were able to calculate maximum shift duration at various depths within the mine. This interesting field device has saved countless of lives since its invention.
This anemometer features a large center dial with Wind Speed marked 0 to 90 Feet. Small dial Wind Duration marked 0 to 9 Hours. Serial Number Engraved at the Bottom of the Brass Base. Features in-and-out airflow with reset switch. American made, circa 1900-1940. Functioning piece. Sold in original case.
