H.B. Nims & Co. Terrestrial Globe, c.1880-1885

H.B. Nims & Co. Terrestrial Globe, c.1880-1885

An interesting 10" terrestrial globe by H.B. Nims & Co., mounted within calibrated full brass meridian. An engraved circular horizon band supports the globe with a paper calendar and zodiac on supports. Bronzed iron tripod stand with scrolled-foot foliate, cabriole legs. Oceans are indicated in a cream color. Landmasses, geographical features, and borders (some shaded/hatched) are indicated in various shades of green, pink, cream, and yellow.

While many US cities and rivers are indicated, most states are not labeled. Ex: North & South Dakota are shown as a single territory (prior to their individual statehoods in 1891), Canada is labeled as "British America".

This particular style of Franklin Globes is an earlier model created by 'H.B. Nims & Co.' during 1869-1885. The decorative Victorian style of the base and details within the Globe date this piece to between 1880-1885. H.B Nims & Co. again traded under this name during 1890,1892-1896 (with later globes featuring additional American States as they were recognized).

Professionally restored and revarnished. Light toning, slight marks of wear as expected, overall excellent condition.
