This student disecting microscope was produced by Spencer Lens Co. in Buffalo, NY. Specer & Sons was founded in 1865 by Chalres Spencer. Charles Spencer is considered one of the first microscope manufacuters in America. After Charles's death in 1891, his son Herbert took over the company, later changing the name to Spencer Lens Co. in 1895. This microscope was manufactured before 1945, when Spencer Lens Company was acquired by American Optical Scientific Instrument Division. This disecting microscope features a simple lens, rack-and-pinion focus, square glass stage, double sided sub-stage mirror and a u-shaped base. This microscope features a very Heavy iron U-shaped base and rack and pinion focusing. Includes the 6x ocular Spencer eye piece. The microscope is missing the glass stage and one slide clip, but otherwise appears very good considering its age.
