1880 Parkes & Hadley Orrery Tellurian
1880 Parkes & Hadley Orrery Tellurian
A Parkes and Hadley’s patented Orrery Tellurian by George Philips & Son, London – Liverpool. Circa 1880. The earth is displayed as a 3-inch paper and bass globe, the moon a wooden sphere, & the lit spirit-lamp acts as the sun. Large central disc has on its surface letters and divisions representing months, seasons and cardinal points. Tellurian sits atop an ornate cast-iron base. By moving round the handle, the earth will rotate upon its axes, & the moon revolves in its path round the earth as they display their accurate journey round the sun.
