By 1904, they were trading under 'Sherwoods \u0026amp; Son Ltd.', and were acquired by Linley \u0026amp; Co. in 1920.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDuplex burners were first invented \u0026amp; patented by Joseph \u0026amp; James Hinks in 1865. At that time, a patent was issued for 14 years. After 1880, other light-makers were able to begin incorporating double burners.
